About Our Founder

Meet Candice Stephens, the passionate Founder and Chairman of the Day After Foundation. Candice's journey with transplantation began in the late 1990s after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 7. Despite numerous health challenges, including a diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease, Candice's resilience and determination to educate and support others have shaped her life's work.

Candice is a double organ recipient, receiving a kidney on December 2, 2016, and a pancreas on October 4, 2018. Her husband, Gibran Stephens, is her kidney donor, and together they have one daughter, Kobi Stephens. Candice's personal experiences with diabetes and organ transplantation inspired her to establish the Day After Foundation, which is dedicated to creating a community of hope and support for those navigating similar journeys.

With over 20 years of experience in accounting and her role as a real estate broker, Candice's professional and personal passions intersect in her advocacy work. She serves as the Support Group Facilitator and a mentor for the Georgia Transplant Foundation, is a volunteer and workplace partner with LifeLink of Georgia, and is a Kidney Health Coach and member of the Kidney Health Coach Advisory Council for the American Kidney Fund.

Through her dedication, Candice continues to share her story and empower others to embrace their path with courage and hope. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling the world, and spending time with her family.

Personal Message from Candice

"I am living proof of what organ donation looks like. It is a chance at a better life. It is hope. It is joy. My husband, best friend, and ultimately my kidney donor, Gibran Stephens, exemplified unconditional love towards me by giving me the gift of life and for that, I am forever grateful!

My journey has taught me the value of resilience, hope, and the importance of having a supportive community. I founded the Day After Foundation to empower others facing similar challenges. I hope my story inspires you to become the best version of yourself. Remember, it only takes one decision to change your life. Choose YOU!"
